
Rhino trekking
Being the only spot where you can view southern White Rhinos, you should try this for at least once in your life time. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is equipped with well-trained rangers who guide you during your Uganda Rhino Trekking safari to a place where the rhinos will be. It’s really magnificent watching these rhinos wander in their natural habitat. While with them, you can take many pictures as many as possible for memories.
Canoe ride and Shoebill trek
It feels nice taking a morning canoe through the Lugogo swamp. This will qualify you view the shoebill; one of the most sought birds in Uganda for birders on a Uganda birding Safaris. The shoebill canoe ride does not only give opportunity to sight the shoebill but also watch the beautiful Uganda sun rise over the Lugogo swamp.
Birding
Have you dreamt of watching beautiful birds on any birding safari? Then Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has got an excellent Uganda birding safari experience for you. The sanctuary hosts over 300 species of birds. Therefore, nature and bird lovers wouldn’t see themselves miss the activity. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has over four birding trails. Take on a guide with you to show you the different birds like; the famous shoebill, Nubian wood pecker, abdim’s stork, blue spotted dove, cattle egret, tree pipit, booted eagle, broad billed roller, African darter, bronze manikins, African broad bill, variable sunbird, to mention but a few. Birding normally takes 2hours is done early in the morning therefore it is advised that you spend a night at the sanctuary because visitors don’t enter before its 7:30am in the evening at 4pm. While birding, you will probably see other wild game found in the sanctuary.
Nature walks
I doubt if you have ever been at nature with its scents and sounds. Would you want to know how it feels like? Experience it by taking a guided walk through the lush bushes of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The guide that takes you around for the walk has knowledge about the animals, birds and reptiles as well as the vegetation and botany of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Therefore, feel free to ask questions about what you would love to know.
Night walks
Night walks is one of the involvements you cannot exclude on your Uganda Safari itinerary to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Night walks will introduce you to various night sounds and sensations that you didn’t know existed. Ziwa has so many nocturnal animals for you to see. These night walks are done between 8pm and 11pm.
The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary was founded in 2005 by the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rhino Fund Uganda.
